Dear HRPS Members and Friends,
We just wrapped up our 2026 Walking Tour season where we recorded over 730 people who attended 28 walks, with an average attendance of 26 people per walk. A HUGE THANK YOU to our 22 volunteer Tour Guides, and the more than two dozen support volunteers who carried equipment, set up our registration table and banner, checked people in, and served as cabooses, to ensure the safety of our walkers. Your enthusiasm and collaboration made a memorable impression on our attendees, making you true ambassadors for HRPS and for historic preservation!
Our success wouldn't be possible without our administrator, Peggy Boni, who set each walk up in our event registration system, monitored attendance, fielded questions and sorted out problems, kept in touch with tour guides and volunteers, often doubling up as equipment manager, registration attendant, or caboose. Thank you, Peggy!
We'll be putting together a photo recap of some of the walks to share in the next week or so.
While the walking tours have been going on, another group of volunteers has been busy getting ready for our 2026 Harvest of Homes Tour. Our homes this year are simply stunning. The date is Saturday, September 26, from 10am - 3pm. Watch for the announcement in your inbox this afternoon.
I hope you were able to attend some of the fabulous Artown events this year. We had a good showing for our two workshops/seminars held at Nevada Sunset Winery, and we're already looking ahead to what we might offer next year. Nevada Sunset Winery was a very accommodating partner, and from what I could tell, attendees did their best to show their appreciation with generous bar tabs. Thanks to all who attended!
Hot August Nights returns this month, and while we have no affiliation with them, the entire event is based around celebrating the history and culture of the automobile which radically transformed our way of life, especially here in the Western states. Here's an interesting article I ran across from Smithsonian Magazine from 2001, about a Museum of Modern Art exhibit and how artists responded to the changes brought on by this new technology.
