HRPS News & Updates

Dear HRPS Members,

I hope you are as excited as we are to bring back the annual Harvest of Homes Tour.  By now you should have received the latest FootPrints issue with photos and descriptions of all the homes, and an email with the link to register for the tour.  You can also register by going to the HRPS website - 2023 Home Tour (historicreno.org).  The website contains additional information about each home in case you want to read up before you go!

Our monthly program series returns this month as well.  We will again meet on the Second Sunday of the month, at the Downtown Reno Library.  The September 10 program celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Fleishman Planetarium.  Details below.

We think you'll want to see "A Black Springs Homecoming: Finding History", a 26-minute documentary being shown at the Nevada Museum of Art on September 21.

And for those who enjoy the spooky side of history, be sure to check out the Carson City Ghost Walks, and consider signing up for TMCC's Nevada Ghost and Paranormal Series of classes.

Maybe a pub crawl through the E. Fourth Street Brewery District is more your style.  And if a road trip is on your agenda, take a look at the 6 places to bask in the glow of historic neon signs.  Links for all these events and more below.

September is filled with filled with fantastic outdoor events, from the Rib Cookoff, to the Great Reno Balloon Races, the Virginia City Camel Races, the Greek Festival, Genoa Candy Dance, Street Vibrations, and many others. Events for September 2023 – Reno Tahoe (visitrenotahoe.com)

East Fourth Street Brewery District

For more than 50 years, Reno Brewing Company produced fine lagers—the famous Sierra Beer known throughout the state. After surviving Prohibition, by 1950, it was the only remaining brewery in Nevada, but in 1957, it halted production forever.

All that remains of it today is the shuttered bottling plant, built in 1940, and a historical legacy that lives on in the neighborhood, now known as the Brewery District.
